Neolithic Heart of the World
Orkney's extraordinary concentration of Neolithic monuments — Skara Brae, Maeshowe, the Ring of Brodgar — are UNESCO World Heritage sites that predate Stonehenge and the Pyramids, making this archipelago of 70 islands one of the most significant archaeological landscapes on Earth.
Orkney is a global leader in marine renewable energy, hosting the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) which has tested more tidal and wave energy devices than anywhere else on Earth. The islands also have exceptional wind resources and are leading the UK in hydrogen energy development.
